Before Your First Bursa Stock

Before buying your first Bursa Malaysia stock, you generally need a trading account and a CDS account. BursaNews compares the main broker options available to Malaysian investors.

Listed Companies Make Announcements Every Single Day

If you already invest in Malaysian stocks, or you're thinking about it, here's something most people don't know: listed companies publish announcements daily, and most of these go completely unnoticed by everyday investors. Some of them quietly move the share price days later.

Which Broker Should You Use?

SC-regulated brokers only. Start with the comparison: what each broker is best for, its fees and how it handles CDS accounts. Some links are affiliate links, at no extra cost to you.

Still deciding? Read Moomoo vs Webull Malaysia: which to choose, and check what a CDS account is before you open one.

Questions New Investors Ask Us

Learn the basics first (our free 5-step Starter Kit needs no email). Then open a CDS account and a trading account with an SC-licensed broker, which most brokers do in one online application. Fund the account from a bank account in your own name, start small with companies you understand, and learn how fees, dividends and announcements work before you add more.
It depends on what you will trade. Our editorial pick for beginners is Moomoo for its all-in-one app and learning tools. Rakuten Trade suits Bursa-focused investors who want low flat fees, and Webull suits investors focused on US stocks. Compare fees, CDS arrangement, markets and current promotions on our broker comparison page before deciding.
A CDS (Central Depository System) account records the Bursa Malaysia securities you own. You open it through a stockbroker or Bursa Malaysia's Bursa Anywhere app. You must be 18 or older and will need your MyKad or passport. Some brokers open a CDS account in your own name, others hold shares through a nominee account, so ask if you plan to apply for IPOs. Full CDS account guide.
A Pink Form lets eligible directors and employees apply for IPO shares reserved for them. You will usually need a CDS account in your own name. Check the closing date, open a CDS account early if you do not have one, and follow the instructions on your form and in the prospectus exactly. Read our IPO Pink Form guide.
A rights issue is when a listed company raises money by offering existing shareholders new shares, usually at a discount. You can subscribe, sell your rights, or let them lapse. If you do nothing, your shareholding is diluted. The right choice depends on why the company is raising money and whether the price makes sense. Rights issue explained.
BursaNews is run by former investment banking and capital-markets professionals who have advised Malaysian listed companies on IPOs and corporate exercises. We never give buy or sell tips. We teach you how to read announcements and analyse companies yourself, in plain language, in Mandarin and English. About us.
